By Sophie Nicholson, Updated

Climbing Mont Blanc is not recommended at the moment due to significant rockfall in the couloir du Gouter. The Compagnie des Guides in St Gervais have decided to postpone any planned ascents of Mont Blanc via the voie normale or voie royale and the PGHM in Chamonix have confirmed the existing dangers in the couloir du Gouter.

The extreme heat and dry conditions have contributed to the current situation and mountaineers are encouraged to be extremely vigilant when moving within the area as a whole. The use of theTete Rousse bivy area at the has been banned until further notice.
