Running in Chamonix
Discover the top Chamonix trails and races
With the growing popularity of trail running in the Valley, Chamonix has recently declared itself the Trail Valley (Vallée du Trail).
The terrain lends itself perfectly to trail running with the stunning scenery, hundreds of MTB free routes, some fairly significant height gains and a near year round lift network to get you to new stomping grounds.
The Maison Du Trail is a dedicated information site based at the Bois du Bouchet, where two local trail runners will be available to give advice on running in Chamonix. Open everyday during the summer season from 09:00 to 19:00.

Refuges & huts
There are plenty of refuges dotted around the Mont Blanc Massif that are perfect for staying the night. However, if you are running you may not want to be held back with carrying extra weight so a 'hut to hut' approach is possibly not what you're looking for. You may however be interested to start your run from a different point and staying the night before in a hut could work well for you.
Races & events
Chamonix is also known for the array of world class running events that it hosts every year. The running season kicks off with the Mont Blanc Marathon weekend which features the Marathon, the Ultra, the Cross, the 10k and the Vertical K. At the end of August the infamous Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc brings in world class runners from around the globe to compete in a number of ultras, ranging from 96km to 300km. The Trail des Aiguilles Rouges finishes the season in September, another ultra marathon but this time more popular amongst the local trail runners.
Recce The Route
The Balcon des Fiz is the shortest of the Trail du Tour des Fiz series, clocking in at 22km with 1500m of positive gain. It’s a fun introduction to trail running and is mostly over fairly non-technical terrain, but it’s no walk in the park...
Recce The Route
With just 3 weeks to go until race day (eek!) we’re now ramping up the training sessions before the inevitable taper. A few of our group are running the Cross du Mont Blanc for the first time this year and the course has changed slightly since I...
Running the OCC - UTMB 2016
Dragging myself out of bed at 4am and onto a bus at 5:30am goes against every fibre of my being, so there had to be a good reason for putting myself in this situation. Getting to the start line of the OCC is half the battle, in my opinion, so running...
Spring Trail Running in Chamonix
The first trail run of spring is usually a prime example of optimism over experience; resulting in wet feet, cold extremities and scratched legs incurred through scrambling over avalanche debris, fallen trees and through boggy paths. This winter has...
Sunday Funday Runday - Autumn Trail Running in Chamonix
The lifts may be closed but autumn is one of my favourite times of the year for getting out and hitting the trails. The temperatures are dropping, the paths are a lot quieter and everything is just so beautiful - check out the amazing colours that we...
