ESF Vallorcine's fully qualified instructors teach both adults and children in private lessons; so whether you want one-to-one attention or prefer to share an instructor with a small group of friends and family these guys can help you out. Maximum group size is six.

Private lessons offer the greatest scope for skills progression, as every exercise and terrain choice is customised around your development. The instructors carefully select snow and terrain to support the skills being developed throughout each session.

The school has a team of two hundred and eighty multilingual ski and snowboard instructors, offering high-quality tuition in a range of mountain sports, as well as skiing and snowboarding.

Private lessons are a great way to learn on your own or with friends and family of a similar level. Instructors provide a focused, individually tailored experience, helping you improve your technique and offering tips to perfect your style.

Lessons are available in various durations, with the most popular choice being two hours. They run in the morning and afternoon, and some lunchtime sessions are also available, subject to availability. Groups are kept small, with a maximum of four participants, so you can make real progress  - whether you’re a beginner or an advanced skier looking to refine your skills.

During your lesson, your instructor will offer personalised advice on technique, share their knowledge of the area, and show you the magnificent mountains - everything tailored to your skill level and your desire to try something new.

4. Group ski lessons

Established in 1991, this ski and snowboard school was one of the first British ski schools in France and is renowned for its fantastic instructors and excellent customer service.

All instructors hold the BASI Level 4 International Ski Teaching Diploma or an internationally recognised equivalent. A wide range of lessons is available to suit all abilities and preferences.

Children’s group lessons are especially popular. With years of experience, instructors know how to strike the perfect balance between fun and learning. Each group has a maximum of just six children, allowing for plenty of individual feedback in a safe and supportive environment.

Adult group ski lessons, for those aged fifteen and over, offer excellent value for money. With a maximum of four adults per group, they feel more like shared private lessons than standard group sessions. You can expect personalised feedback, structured progression and high-quality demonstrations throughout.

ESF Vallorcine's fully qualified instructors have something for the whole family - the little ones from age three, children, teens and adults across every level from beginner and intermediate to expert.

Children group lessons

Piou Piou

Children from age three can join the Piou Piou kids kindergarten club where they will get the opportunity to put on skis for the first time in ESF's protected snow garden. 

Ages six plus 

Full day ski lessons are available for children over the age of six with the option to have lunch provided if desired. Maximum group size for children's lessons is 12.

Adult group lessons

Once your level is established, you will be taught by one of their enthusiastic instructors who will help you develop the skills and technique necessary for quick improvement on the breathtaking domains of Vallorcine-Balme and La Poya.

Snowboarding

If you'd like to learn to snowboard or improve on your existing skills, whatever your level, your specialist snowboard instructor will teach you the right techniques to make quick progress. Snowboarding courses are available for complete beginners, improver levels 1, 2 and 3 and for children from the age of eight.

7. Group ski lessons

Operating across the valley, this world-class team of ski instructors is available at all meeting points in Chamonix.

This ski school brings together a handpicked team of instructors, each with a world-class background in snowsports. Every instructor has deep expertise in their speciality - skiing or snowboarding - along with a broad knowledge of the sport overall.

Lessons aren’t taught from scripts or templates. Instead, instructors adapt their teaching to your personal learning style, ensuring genuine progress in your technique and building lasting confidence on the slopes.

Group lessons are available for all ages and abilities:

  • Adult groups/shared lessons: flexible ski and snowboard sessions for one to five participants, available throughout the season. Simply book a private lesson and they convert it into a group lesson - additional participants joining earn you money back, just like a ride-share. Perfect for beginners, intermediate refreshers, confidence builders, advanced piste skills, bumps/moguls, and off-piste practice.
  • Junior groups: four-hour daily sessions during school holidays, running from one to five days. Designed for children aged six and up (younger children require prior arrangement), these lessons develop confidence and skills while making learning fun. Two levels are available:
    • Blue group: skiers learning basic parallel turns on green and easy blue runs.
    • Red group: experienced skiers refining a variety of parallel techniques on all pistes.
  • Academy groups: for juniors with top ski awards (eight or nine stars), focusing on piste performance, steeps, off-piste, bumps, and freestyle. Sessions also develop mountain awareness, safety skills, and respect for the alpine environment. Entry requires prior assessment via junior red groups or a private lesson to confirm ability level.

In addition to group sessions, the ski school also offers private lessons, off-piste guiding, specialised bumps and moguls classes, full moon ski tours, and alpine touring courses for adults. As long as you’re comfortable on all pistes, you’re ready to join.

8. Group ski lessons

This ski school welcomes everyone from beginners to experts in group classes.

The ski school has a team of two hundred and eighty multilingual ski and snowboard instructors offering high-quality tuition in a range of mountain sports, as well as skiing and snowboarding.

Adult group lessons

Offered all week long, with morning sessions from Monday to Friday and relaxed ‘come and ski in the afternoon’ options for those who prefer not to rush to the slopes. These afternoon sessions are perfect if you like learning when things are a little calmer.

All ages and experience levels are welcome. Groups are kept small, with no more than eight to ten people, so you’ll learn alongside others of a similar standard. Your instructor will tailor each lesson to suit the needs of the group.

Teens

Aged thirteen to eighteen, teens have their own lessons too, available in the mornings or afternoons to suit your family’s schedule. Whether they’re beginners, have a few weeks of experience, or fancy trying something new – perhaps snowboarding – there’s a course to match.

Children’s group lessons

For three- and four-year-old beginners, lessons take place in the private snow garden - a secure area where little skiers can make their first turns safely and enjoy the fun of the magic carpet. Five- to twelve-year-olds learn on the Savoy or Planards slopes, building confidence and skills while having fun on the snow.

Private ski lessons are a great alternative to group sessions, offering intensive and personalised learning tailored to your needs. Whether you're learning alone, with friends or family, or simply looking for a personal mountain guide, the experienced instructors will lead you to the best runs and provide high-quality technical feedback along the way.

Snowboarding lessons follow the same format as private ski lessons, allowing you to progress at your own pace. Whether you're linking turns for the first time or heading off-piste in search of powder, there's something on offer for every level.

10. Group ski lessons

This ski school offers group ski lessons for both children and adults, catering to all ability levels. Their group lessons provide a great and affordable way to improve your skiing in a safe, social and supportive environment.

The school’s small group sizes enable instructors to provide plenty of personalised feedback to each skier, allowing all group members to advance their skills effectively and efficiently.

Children’s group ski lessons have a maximum of just six children per class. Instructors focus on encouraging learning through enjoyment and fun, aiming to make the journey of learning to ski truly unforgettable. Structured lessons include a progress card and badge system to celebrate each child’s success.

Adult group ski lessons offer fantastic value for money, with small groups of just four to six students. These structured lessons combine technical explanations, quality demonstrations and personalised feedback, creating the perfect environment for improvement.

11. Group ski lessons

This ski school offers ski and snowboard lessons for all ages and abilities. You can enjoy the team spirit of a group lesson with the emphasis on real progression and fun!

Evolution 2 offer a personal approach to learning and their priorities are simple: very small groups (maximum of eight) and English speaking instructors who are specialists in their field.

They provide lessons to suit your needs with priority use of ski lifts, so that you can spend more time on the mountain and less time in lift queues!

Group lessons are a good value option with groups of maximum eight people. Lessons are with English speaking instructors who love to teach and you will have lots of fun whilst learning. They offer a variety of group classes for adults and children of all ages and abilities. Snowboard groups are available for beginners and those wishing to develop freestyle skills.

Children are welcomed into the Panda Club from three years old, where they will have fun in a safe and friendly environment, developing up into Junior Academy levels 1-3.

12. Private ski lessons

This ski school offers ski and snowboard lessons for all ages and abilities. You can enjoy the benefit from the one-on-one attention of a private lesson.

Evolution 2 offer a personal approach to learning, and with this is mind they limit private lessons to a maximum of six. They have English speaking instructors who are specialists in their field and most importantly the emphasis is on real progression and FUN.

They provide lessons to suit your needs with priority use of ski lifts, so that you can spend more time on the mountain and less time in lift queues!

Private lessons give you the opportunity to tailor your time and if you specify your requirements at time of booking they will make sure to fit you with the best instructor for you; you set the objectives and the instructors will help you to achieve them. They are also perfect if you’re not keen on group lessons or maybe you prefer being guided around the mountain whilst getting some technical advice and priority in the lift queues. You can either have one-to-one instruction or if you prefer to share with friends or family, you can as long as you are of a similar ability.

They organise private tuition every day during winter season in Chamonix: from December to May.

13. Private ski lessons

Anne Bosvieux is a French qualified, English speaking ski instructor that gives private ski lessons in Chamonix, Argentière and Les Houches.

Anne is patient, friendly and will work with both individuals and small groups. She has years of experience teaching in the Chamonix valley and has specialist qualifications and experience working with children. She has 15+ years experience as a private instructor.

When learning with Anne, you get more than just ski lessons, she can offer a fully comprehensive service, including holiday advice before you leave home. Your reservation will be made before you arrive in resort so you need not stand in a line trying to book your lessons at ski school. Anne can suggest a choice of recommended ski shops who offer good, friendly English speaking service and quality ski equipment.

Even better, Anne will provide much-appreciated comfortable 4x4 transportation to make your ski experience even easier and more manageable. For a half day lesson, she'll transport you either to or from your accommodation, or for full-day lessons you can get transportation both ways. In addition, Anne offers day trips with transport provided to neighbouring resorts.
