Fake guide sentenced after Mont Blanc death
Back in July we reported on a fatal accident on Mont Blanc that involved two Polish alpinists who had been posing as qualified mountain guides in order to escort paying clients up Mont Blanc (Click here to read the original story).
One of the guides fell while descending Mont Blanc via the Couloir du Goûter and was killed; mountain rescue services attended the accident and queried the credentials of the surviving guide.
Yesterday afternoon (Thursday 23rd September) saw the “guide marron” appearing in court at Bonneville to answer charges of “usurpation de titre”, or fraudulent representation.
The man was handed a six month suspended prison sentence and a 1000 euro fine, to be paid to the union of the French mountain guides. He was not however found to be responsible for the death of his colleague.
