Only weeks after Chamonix decided to lift its year-long ban on wingsuit jumps, a young German man has died after jumping from the Brevent and hitting the rockface on his way down.

The accident happened at around 18:00 on Thursday 25th of July, when the 24 year old man from Germany jumped for the fourth time that day from the Brevent at 2525 metres.
Said to have hit a rocky outcrop on his descent, the mountain rescue service could only declare the man as dead when the found him.
He had set off with two other wingsuiters who alerted the PGHM of the accident.

Chamonix banned the practise of wingsuit flights in 2012 following the death of a Norwegian man. However after careful consideration Chamonix decided to lift the ban and opened up the lift accessible sites to the sport again. This time with obligations of the jumpers to call the PGHM before every flight and that a no-fly zone was enforced during the hours of 10:00 - 15:00, to allow for the continual practice of paragliding in the area.
