First Day of the Freeride World Tour in Sochi Russia
The first stop of the Freeride World Tour started this morning in Sochi Russia.
The resort, which is apparently Vladamir Putins favourite, has been engulfed in low clouds and although it has been snowing up on the top of the hill rain had been falling down in the town of Sochi itself.
This morning the riders ventured out, bright and early into a foot of fresh powder for the first day of the comp.
Riders from all over the world come together for the Freeride World Tour which is the biggest Freeride competition in the winter calendar. Male and Female skiers and boarders will be travelling to Sochi in Russia, Chamonix, Squaw Valley, USA and Verbier in an attempt to be crowned The World’s Greatest Freerider.
Last year’s winner Aurelien Ducroz is once again back on the hill defending his title. The Chamonix local will be back on home turf for the second stop in the tour in Chamonix on January 30th.
Joining Ducroz in Sochi are the cream of the Freeride world; Sverre Liliequist, Seb Michaud, Kaj Zackrisson, Xavier de la Rue, Ane Enderud and Susan Mol are all back for another year.
A new and very welcome participant this year is French freestyle legend Candide Thovex. More well known for his park and pipe riding Candide has come back strong after a bad injury and as his riding in Candide Kamera and at Vars in the Red Bull Line Catcher shows he’s ready to take on the big mountain riding.
The next stop of the tour will be in Chamonix on the 30th of January and it is surely one of the biggest fixtures in the Chamonix Winter Calendar. We’ll be there so stay logged on for more details.
