An avalanche swept away two German skiers on the Glacier du Tour area above the village of Le Tour, killing one.

Skier swept over hundreds of metres by off piste avalanche in Chamonix

At 16:30 on Tuesday the two skiers were said to have set-off an avalanche on the Glacier du Tour area whilst skiing down from col du Passon at 1700 metres. Both skiers were swept away with the avalanche, unfortunately one of the skiers was dragged over a number of rocky drops and was killed in the incident.

The PGHM rescue services were called out by a group of skiers who witnessed the avalanche happen from a distance and were able to quickly dig out the body of the victim from the avalanche.
