Glaciorium due to open end of May
New glacier exhibition underway at Mer de Glace
The Compagnie du Mont Blanc has plans for a new visitor attraction at the Mer de Glace - the impressively named Glaciorium.
Despite sounding like an arena for mountain guides to engage in combat, the Glaciorium will be an educational exhibition explaining the creation and evolution of glaciers.
The project has apparently come about due to the level of interest from knowledge hungry visitors to the Mer de Glace; possibly as a result of the free on-site lectures given by local glaciologist Luc Moreau.
The futuristic-looking visitor centre will be interactive and will feature "augmented reality" technology to give us a glimpse into the future of the glaciers.
