Glass Floor for the Aiguille du Midi
Chamonix Skywalk to give visitors sensation of a step into the void
A 5 million Euro plan has been drawn up to renovate the Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix which will feature a Skywalk, a glazed viewing platform, which will be suspended 1000 metres over the void.
The Compagnie du Mont Blanc have been busy developing new ideas to further attract tourists to the spectacular site up at 3842 metres. The ideas that have now been put into a formal plan include:
A high-altitude Via Ferrata, open to guided groups only where you could traverse across 80 metres of mountain face on an equipped route.
An ice cave and a museum which could quite possibly the highest museum in Europe, if not the world.
A collection of glazed floor terraces at dizzying heights. Possibly inspired by the Grand Canyon Skywalk these terraces will allow you to step out into the void high above Chamonix.
The plans have been sent to the local town hall for approval - we will keep you informed of any developments.
