Heavy snow forecast
Difficult driving conditions & lift closures expected
Local forecasts are predicting more snow over the next 48 hours, with significant quantities that could cause a few problems on the roads and limited ski area opening.
For today, Wednesday 4th, the forecast predicts snowfall at 1500 m of 10-20 cm. Tomorrow, 5th of January, expected snowfall at 1500 m is 30-60 cm.
The stormy weather will also bring high winds at altitude. So, with the combination of high winds and heavy snowfall the chances of the ski lifts up top being open tomorrow are slim.
Today the lifts are open in Brevent & Flegere. Whilst Grands Montets & Le Tour are suffering from high winds and therefore not all lifts are open.
Naturally with the snowfall the avalanche risk is on the up - today is a level 3 (significant risk) on all slopes above 2200 metres.
So far snow reports show a cumulative snowfall of: 1.43 m In Chamonix, 4.88 m Le Tour & 5.17 m Grands Montets - Lognan
