Parapenter Crashes into the Bellachat Refuge Yesterday

A lucky escape from a crash landing on the small refuge

The guardian of the Bellachat Refuge got a bit of a shock when a parapenter crash landed into the roof of the tiny building yesterday afternoon.

A couple of hikers arrived at the refuge shortly after the accident had happened, to find the man being tended to by paramedics who had been flown in by helicopter. He had apparently fallen on his back, and his backpack had cushioned some of the fall, preventing more serious injuries.

He was conscious and able to speak to the paramedics, who flew him off to hospital for further treatment.

The guardian of the refuge told the hikers that this was the first time in over 35 years that anything like this had happened, and that it was a miracle the man wasn't more seriously injured.

We hope he has a speedy recovery.
