A skier was caught in the large avalanche spotted yesterday morning on the Brevent area of Chamonix in an off piste coulouir.

The PGHM helicopter was quick to survey the area from above, as the avalanche was immediately spotted from Chamonix town.
Suspecting the presence of a skier, a long search operation was conducted in the avalanche area.
By mid afternoon the lifeless body of the victim was found under the avalanche. The skier, not yet identified, was equipped with an avalanche transceiver, helmet and and an avalanche airbag.
The avalanche risk has been high this week due to the continuous snowfall.

Our thoughts go out to the victims friends and family.
