Two mountaineers perish on the Dome du Gouter
Spanish man and Polish woman found dead on Mont Blanc
Eight mountaineers found themselves in difficult conditions on Friday as bad weather moved in over the Mont Blanc, which eventually took the lives on two young mountaineers.
The climbers were on the Bosses Ridge normal route up the Mont Blanc when cloud and snow came in with a severe drop in temperature. Four members of the group managed to successfully make their way back down to the Gouter refuge however the remaining four were caught up in the closing weather.
As a rescue team started to make their way up to locate the stranded group, they met two of the remaining four halfway between the Gouter refuge and the Vallot refuge who had left the other two behind.
A break in the weather on Saturday enabled the Italian rescue services to send a helicopter up to the Vallot refuge on the Dôme du Goûter for the remaining two stranded mountaineers, however the Spanish man and Polish woman were found dead.
The rescue teams successfully evacuated the six mountaineers from the Gouter refuge.
