Vivre le Mono!
Contrary to popular belief monoskiing is not dead. At least, not totally. A group of diehard monoskiers are carrying on regardless. The seventh annual Monopride, due to be held in Villard-de-Lans from 15th-18th March, will bring together an increasingly rare breed of mono enthusiasts.
The practice of monoskiing originated in the States in the 70s and like flouro all-in-ones it really took off in Europe in the 80s. Today, however, monoskiers are seen as figures of fun on the slopes. Despite their laughable image, out and out enthusiasts maintain that the monoski is the best all round mountain tool; as at home on the bumps as through the powder.
Aficionados of the old school snow sport will be able to hold their heads up high at Monopride, a freestyle event that was originally conceived in 2000 and first held in Les Arcs.
