Extra things to do on the run up to New Year's Eve

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

We have around 20 pistes open in Chamonix this week, so skiing is possible although limited. That being said at least we have some snow, which is better than none at all..

With this patchy snow cover, it might not be a surprise to hear that extra activities have been laid on to keep everyone entertained this week.

Here are a few things to do on the lead up to New Year's Eve.

Chamonix Centre

Glide around the ice at Chamonix's indoor ice rink. It's open every day and the skate hire is just €5 for adults with a carte d'hote or €3.70 for children.

ESF Ski School are having a street parade on Wednesday 28th from 18:30 with mulled wine and hot chocolate.

The treetop adventure course at Gaillands is open on Thursday and Saturday this week from 13:00 to 16:00. Courses vary from the easy, low level children's ones up to the more challenging red and black graded routes.

Chamonix Sports Centre is open for swimming, gym sessions, indoor climbing, indoor tennis, crossfit classes and there's also a sauna and hammam there too.

Flégère

There's a zip wire at Flégère which is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:30 to 16:00. It's free to try but you'll need to buy a lift pass to get up there.

Les Houches

The Parc de Merlet is open until Friday this week. Go and meet some of the local wildlife and enjoy the views overlooking the Chamonix Valley.

There's an outdoor ice skating rink in Les Houches which is open from 10:00 to 20:00 until 2nd January (times vary after that). Skates only cost 3 euros to hire. Catch bus no.1 to the Prarion and jump off at Le Tourchet stop.

The indoor climbing wall in Les Houches is open every day from 10:00 to 22:00. Entry is free but if you don't have your own harness, shoes or ropes, you can hire them there for 2 euros a piece.

Les Vieilles Luges restaurant is now open for lunch. It takes around 25 minutes to walk up to it from the Maisonneuve car park and it's well worth a visit.

Try the zip wire at the top of the Prarion gondola. It's open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:30 to 16:00 and is free to try out, but you'll need to buy a lift pass to get up there.
