Aiguille du Midi lift reopens for summer 2018
Service finally resumes on Chamonix's number one attraction
After the closure of the Aiguille du Midi lift for unexpected maintenance on June 10th, Compagnie du Mont Blanc have announced an early reopening of the top section on Wednesday, July 4th.
Normal service will resume for summer 2018, running from 06:30 to 17:00 daily, with the last descent from the summit at 18:00, and from Plan de l'Aiguille at 18:10. The summit elevator, and the 'Step into the Void' attraction will remain closed temporarily due to a technical fault.
Originally closed due to the detection of an "anomaly" on the cable, work on the second section of the Aiguille du Midi téléphérique appears to have finished ahead of schedule. This is good news for the now annual Arc'teryx Alpine Academy which kicks off in Chamonix on July 6th, as it was previously feared that restrictions on the Aiguille du Midi would hamper events.
The Aiguille du Midi is the highest point that can be accessed by cable car in the Chamonix valley, with the top station standing at 3842m, and situated directly across from Mont Blanc. It is the closest most non-climbers ever get to Mont Blanc, and offers unrivalled views over the massif, the glaciers, and the Chamonix Valley, not to mention a large chunk of the Alps and surrounding countries.
