It's been on the cards for a while, but on the 29th October the director of CPAM informed Chamonix's mayor, Eric Fournier, that he wants to close the two social security and administration offices in Chamonix & Sallanches.

The nearest CPAM office after the closures will be in Cluses, which Eric Fournier has told CPAM is an unacceptable location to provide services for people living in Chamonix, especially for the elderly or those with reduced mobility.

He is set to have further talks to try to retain services in the valley, and his counterpart in Sallanches is to do the same, to try and find a more appropriate solution.

If no solution can be found both offices will close on 15th December.
