Home run open in Grands Montets
The Pierre à Ric piste will be skiable on Saturday
The Compagnie du Mont Blanc have taken advantage of this week's sub-zero temperatures and snowfalls to produce artificial snow on the red Pierre à Ric piste, the home run of Grands Montets that takes skiers from the mid station (1960m) to the bottom of the resort (1260m).
It has been a difficult start of the season in Chamonix due to the lack of snow, but things are looking up. We got the first dump of the year this week, which made conditions a lot better on the valley pistes, and the low temperatures have allowed the resort managers to produce heaps of artificial snow filling up the slopes even down to the valley floor.
The snow cannons have been working hard at Grands Montets, with over 60,000m3 of artificial snow produced since January 1st so that, from now on, you'll be able to return to your car - or bus - on your skis.
