Tramway du Mont Blanc closed over strike action
Attraction closed until further notice
The popular Tramway du Mont Blanc has been closed until further notice as 11 out of 18 staff have gone on strike over the return to work of a colleague who had allegedly been harassing 5 members of the team.
The Tramway operates from St Gervais to the nid d'Aigle in Les Houches and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Chamonix after to the Mer de Glace and the Aiguille du Midi.
Outspoken mayor of St Gervais, Jean-Marc Peillex is not impressed at its closure. He told the Messager newspaper that it was a terrible time for this to happen, with the current lack of snow, he says there is even more need for visitor attractions like this to be operating.
He went on to say that this personal conflict jeopardises one of the jewels in the crown of the Haute Savoie and that with pollution in the region being at an all time high recently, clean transport such as this should be utilised.
The tramway will be closed until further notice.
